Shift 1:
So, first day with the RCMP wasn’t a long day of work, I started at 10am and finished roughly around 1pm. I met my sponsor and he brought me to sign some papers for security purposes. After signing the papers I got my finger printed again because they needed a second one, and I got a picture and a building pass to be able to access pretty much anywhere in the building, “the key to the kingdom” which is what they called it. I got my work schedule, and what I didn’t know was there is more than 1 surrey RCMP... There are 3 other surrey sub-detachments (5 total) where I will be placed on certain days, as if the main building wasn’t big enough! (haha) Afterwards I met quite a few officers and off to the OCC I went to spend the rest of my shift. The OCC is where all the emergency and report calls take place, and where the officers gain their information. The computer systems they use when taking the call to mark down all the information looked really confusing. I sat with 2 people for about an hour each, and they showed me how it worked. I also got to listen in on the calls they took, listening to these calls first hand was a really cool experience. I got to see how the files were created for the police through the OCC and one person taught me about one of the main sources of the information center. Well anyways that is all I did on the first day, it ended extremely good and can’t wait for my other shifts.
