TERRACE – There have been a few personnel changes at Northwest Community College (NWCC) over the past month.
Tahlia Thomas has been hired to lead the College’s Information Technology (IT) department as the Director of Technology Services. Thomas comes to NWCC from Schoolcraft College in Livonia, Michigan, where she spent three years as the Information Systems Project Coordinator and six years as the Director of Academic Computing and Information Services. “Tahlia’s extensive experience, project management skills and success in leadership will help guide the IT department as NWCC enters its next phase of growth,” said Cathay Sousa, NWCC Vice President of Finance & Administration.
In other personnel moves, Chef Brad Vennard has joined NWCC’s School of Northwest Culinary Arts. Vennard brings more than two decades worth of experience and expertise in the culinary and hospitality sectors. Most recently living in Smithers, Vennard has worked in fine dining establishments in the Lower Mainland and in the North, and has several years of teaching experience at the College of New Caledonia. Margo Van der Touw, NWCC Dean of Culinary Arts programs, said, “Brad brings experience and a fresh perspective to the Culinary Arts programs and we’re all looking forward to the fine dining events returning.”
Irlanda Price has taken on a new role at NWCC and has joined the Student Services Team as its Manager of Student Development. Price will focus on creating a more positive experience for students at all NWCC campuses by focusing on campus life, early intervention, peer tutoring, mentoring and strategic enrolment management. Price will maintain her role as Campus Manager in Kitimat.
“The student experience goes far beyond what happens in the classroom,” said Lianne Gagnon, NWCC Dean of Student Services. “We understand that in order for our students to be truly successful, we need to look at the whole picture of what our students experience in and out of the classroom. Irlanda's social work background and past experience in Student Services will serve her well in this new role.”
