The Board of Governors of Northwest Community College (NWCC) is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Denise Henning as the institution’s new president and CEO. She will assume her position on March 1.
Dr. Henning comes to NWCC from University College of the North (UCN) where she served as president and vice-chancellor since 2006. UCN, based in The Pas, Manitoba, has two main campuses and 12 regional centres, nine of which are in First Nations communities.
“I am passionate about equity and inclusion in higher education and look forward to building relationships at the College and in the communities we serve so that NWCC can continue its journey of transformational change,” Henning said.
As a Cherokee/Choctaw originating from Creek County in Oklahoma, Dr. Henning received her Doctorate in Educational Management and Development from New Mexico State University. She also holds Bachelor and Master’s degrees in Urban Studies and Anthropology from the University of Nebraska.
Prior to her position at UCN, Dr. Henning held various senior appointments including Executive Director of International Student Success and Department Head of Interdisciplinary Studies at the University of Regina, and Vice-President Academic at the First Nations University of Canada.
Board President Rhoda Witherly commented, “It’s a great pleasure to welcome Dr. Henning to Northwest Community College. We are confident in Denise’s leadership and thrilled to have someone with her skills and experience on board.”
